Behaviour Management

QTS standards:

S2.7 They know a range of strategies to promote good behaviour and establish a purposeful learning environment

S3.3.9 They set high expectations for pupils’ behaviour and establish a clear framework for classroom discipline to anticipate and manage pupils’ behaviour constructively and promote self-control and independence

Programme:


  • Links between behaviour and learning – individual learners (VAK), motivation, challenge
  • Setting classoom rules and expectations for behaviour
  • Establishing rewards and consequences
  • Class, group and individuals – consistency and exceptions, fairness
  • Using positives to manage behaviour
  • Techniques for good classroom management – entry, ways of settling the class, ways of gaining attention, groups, management of resources, clearing up, exit from classroom
  • Teacher as role model
  • Scenarios – pairs and discussion – “What would you do…?”
  • The school ethos

Afternoon school visits

  • Observe a lesson/lessons in your visit school
  • Complete the behaviour management tick sheet
  • Complete a movement chart for some chosen pupils
  • Make any notes related to the theory from this morning

With your Mentor

  • Discuss the theory you have learned, and in particular any methods you would like to try out.
  • Discuss what you observed.
  • When your mentor next observes you, make behaviour management a particular focus.
  • Reflect on your management of behaviour in your journal this week.
