All reception children remain in the first infant class, Comets, for their initial year in the School. The learning lays the foundation skills for future work. We feel that being with the class teacher for most of the time helps to foster the security of the child. Towards the end of the academic year, there are opportunities for the children to spend some time with the other teachers. This facilitates their move into the next class.

After this first year and up to Year 6, your child will move through the classes depending on his ability. Each child will be treated as an individual and will have different needs and abilities from his peers. Work is set at an individual level and your child will be working in the class best suited to his needs, irrespective of age. Learning is most effective when the child is stretched both academically and socially.

Specialist teachers will be introduced gradually as your child progresses through the School. Nursery

Induction

  • All our new infants, and parents, are invited to attend a series of story sessions.
  • Induction mornings for the children are in the Summer term. These visits are extremely important to both your child and us. It gives him an opportunity to meet his teachers, other children and older infants, and gives him some idea of our School routine. It enables us to assess whether he is genuinely ready for full time education.
Irrespective of when the children begin school, all start on a half day basis until the teacher feels they can sustain a full day. This is for at least half a term and may take up to a full term; it will depend on the individual child.
